Rosberg pleased to extend points gap
3 November 2013 – Nico Rosberg described himself as "very happy" after helping to extend his Mercedes team's points advantage over Ferrari with a podium finish in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Heading into the twilight race, Mercedes sat four points clear of Ferrari in the battle for second in the Constructors' standings, but that has now been extended to 11, with Rosberg and team-mate Lewis Hamilton collecting 21 points to the Italian outfit's 14.
"Third is good," Rosberg explained during the podium interviews. "The aim was to be best of rest behind the Red Bulls, even though second would have been possible in a perfect world. Mark just got me [while battling] Paul di Resta, but I'm very happy.
"I was very happy to hear that we took some more points off [Ferrari] again. That's the most important thing at the moment; [it gives us] more money and more motivation. If everyone in the factory can see we've got the second best car that’s a massive boost."
For Ferrari, Fernando Alonso finished in fifth position, with Felipe Massa eighth.
