Alonso set for further medical tests
4 November 2013 – Having been cleared of major injury after his heavy impact in Sunday's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso has revealed that he is to undergo further medical tests.
The Ferrari driver, who ultimately finished the race in fifth position, suffered a 25g impact after running off track during a battle with Toro Rosso rival Jean-Éric Vergne, and was later taken to a nearby hospital to be examined for underlying problems.
Although medical staff ruled out any fracturers, Alonso has experienced back pain since the incident, with more medical exams due to take place this afternoon.
"The night was so-so," the Spaniard explained via social networking website Twitter. "I will do more tests this afternoon and try to be 100 percent as soon as possible!"
The Formula 1 fraternity has a two-week break before the next event in America.
