Ecclestone: New Jersey race postponed
4 December 2013 – F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed that the Grand Prix of America in New Jersey will definitely not happen next year, although he is still hoping to make it a reality and is now aiming for 2015.
The event was included on the provisional F1 calendar published at the end of September - given a date of June 1 and sandwiched between the events in Monaco and Canada, albeit ‘subject to circuit approval’.
Doubts were raised again last month though, and it now looks set to be postponed for another year, with Ecclestone saying the delay is for ‘lots and lots and lots of reasons’.
“We are not satisfied it's going to happen in time,” Ecclestone added in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. “What we're aiming for is 2015.”
The news comes ahead of a meeting of the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council in Paris today [Wednesday], with the 2014 F1 calendar expected to be published. Mexico and Korea are also thought likely to be dropped, reducing the number of events from 22 to 19.
