Pérez in favour of double points rule
13 December 2013 – Sergio Pérez, who was announced as a Force India driver on Thursday afternoon, has become the first high profile Formula 1 figure to publicly support the new concept of awarding double points for the final race of the season.
The proposal, cleared for 2014 at a meeting of the sport's Strategy Group and Commission this week, has received largely negative views from fans, while World Champion Sebastian Vettel described it as "absurd".
When questioned over the matter by Sky Sports, Pérez said: "It's an interesting one. I'm in favour. I think it will change things and will make things really exciting until the last race.
"It can go in your favour and it can go against you. Let's see how things go but I expect to have a lot of excitement at the last race. That will be positive.
"It will put a lot of interest towards the end of the Championship because it will decide the Constructors’ Championship as well as the Drivers' Championship."
