Sutil targeting podiums with Sauber
17 December 2013 – Adrian Sutil has his sights set on achieving a maiden Formula 1 podium finish with new team Sauber next season.
The German, who joins the Hinwil-based outfit after five terms at Force India, came closest to the rostrum at the 2009 Italian Grand Prix, when he crossed the line in fourth and less than half a second behind Kimi Räikkönen.
Given Sauber's impressive form over the second half of the 2013 season and its clutch of podium finishes during the previous campaign, he believes his long-time ambition is on the verge of becoming a reality.
"I'm convinced that we will have a successful time – and I'm looking very much forward to my first podium!" Sutil told the official Formula 1 website. "Sauber have had some podiums in the past and that is exactly what I want."
Sutil went on to reveal that his first contact with Sauber came in the early stages of autumn, following which a meeting was set up at the team's factory in preparation for a potential move.
"I felt that it was time for a change and we worked hard for it for months to make it happen," Sutil added. "It will be an interesting experience to see how another team goes about things.
"Sauber was my priority. My manager has been in contact with them since autumn - and around that time I visited the factory in Hinwil for the first time."
Sutil also paid tribute to Force India, following the outfit's decision to hand him his Formula 1 comeback after a one-year sabbatical.
"I have had a good and successful time with Force India," he said. "They gave me the chance to come back - and this fact will always have a special place in my heart!
"For sure I will miss some of the guys there that have turned into friends over the years, but now I'm excited to be with my new team."
