Mallya hopes di Resta stays in Formula 1
22 December 2013 – Force India team boss Vijay Mallya hopes that Paul di Resta will be able to remain in Formula 1 next season.
The Scot, who joined the Silverstone-based outfit in 2010 before stepping up to a race seat the following term, has been dropped along with Adrian Sutil to make way for Nico Hülkenberg and McLaren reject Sergio Pérez.
With Sutil securing a drive at Sauber, there are now just four places up for grabs as the New Year approaches, but Mallya reckons di Resta deserves to claim one of them and extend his stay in the top echelon.
"He's a great guy and he's a good driver," said Mallya. "I have nothing against Paul, or Adrian for that matter – they both remain very good friends.
"The bottom line is I wish him all the best and I wish he stays in the Formula 1 paddock, but don't forget I brought him into Formula 1 from DTM. I gave him that opportunity and I was happy to give him that opportunity - I don't regret it one bit.
"I hope he stays [in the sport] and who knows? Maybe sometime in the future there'll be another opportunity."
Earlier this week, di Resta hinted that he could make a return to Germany's DTM series next year.
