Caterham close to naming driver line-up
11 January 2014 – Caterham will "definitely" make an announcement regarding its future driver line-up ahead of the opening pre-season test at the Circuito de Jerez, the team has confirmed to GPUpdate.net.
The Leafield-based outfit, which fielded Giedo van der Garde and Charles Pic last season, holds two of the three vacant seats along with backmarker rivals Marussia, and admits that it is talking to "a number of drivers".
"You can expect an announcement very soon," a team spokesman told GPUpdate.net of the current situation.
"Definitely before the start of the first test, and I can confirm that we are in talks with a number of drivers."
With 2014 marking the arrival of turbocharged 1.6-litre V6 engines and a host of further technical changes, Caterham has recently stated its preference to sign an experienced driver to aid car set-up and development.
Heikki Kovalainen remains a leading candidate following his two-race outing for Lotus at the end of last season, while 2013 drivers van der Garde and Pic, plus Kamui Kobayashi and Marcus Ericsson are all in the frame.
