Abiteboul states Pic has left Caterham
20 January 2014 – Caterham team boss Cyril Abiteboul has confirmed in a television interview that Charles Pic, who joined the Leafield-based outfit on a multi-year agreement ahead of the 2013 campaign, has lost his seat.
Pic, 23, made his Formula 1 debut with Marussia back in 2012, before switching to key rivals Caterham at the end of the season in a deal that saw French manufacturer Renault increase its technical ties with the squad.
Last year, the Frenchman partnered Giedo van der Garde, whose future at the team is also in doubt.
"Unfortunately, Charles will not be with us [in 2014]," Abiteboul said in an interview with France's Infosport+.
"It is unfortunate that the partnership has ended. However, I want to thank Charles for the job he did last year."
Former Toyota and Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi and long-time GP2 racer Marcus Ericsson have consistently been linked to Caterham's race seats, which are the only spots yet to be filled on the 2014 Formula 1 grid.
When contacted by GPUpdate.net, a Caterham spokesman reiterated that the team will "soon" reveal its line-up.
