Kovalainen confirms he is without a drive
21 January 2014 – Heikki Kovalainen is without a drive for the 2014 Formula 1 campaign after being overlooked by Caterham.
The Leafield-based team had previously stated its intention to run at least one "experienced driver" this season, with many initially expecting this to be Kovalainen after the Finn's clutch of Friday practice outings last year.
But in an interview with independent journalist Adam Cooper, he says he will not be returning with the outfit.
"I got a text message from Tony [Fernandes] saying they need two pay drivers," Kovalainen explained.
"So I guess that's it for me. I was counting on this one 100 percent, so I have nothing planned now."
Kamui Kobayashi and Marcus Ericsson are set to land the race seats, with Robin Frijns in a reserve role.
