Double points idea to go ahead in 2014
23 January 2014 – Formula 1's controversial plan to award double points at the season finale from 2014 will go ahead, according to the BBC, after no attempts were made to reverse the move at a meeting of the sport's key figures.
As outlined by GPUpdate.net last week, governing body the FIA called team bosses to a summit in Geneva on Wednesday to discuss the proposed budget cap and the general direction in which Formula 1 is heading.
Although limited progress was made on the topic of cost-cutting, the double points idea – which has been formulated by Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone – did not face sufficient opposition to see it scrapped.
The World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) is meeting on Thursday to vote over the cost-cap decisions.
