Alonso: It is up to us to deliver
25 January 2014 – Fernando Alonso is hopeful the Scuderia will do well during the 2014 F1 season and has said at the end of the day it is up to him and new team-mate, Kimi Räikkönen to deliver the results on the track.
Alonso finished a distant second in the Drivers’ Championship last year and took just two wins, something he will want to improve upon this season.
“I am in my fifth year with Ferrari and hopefully I can repeat some of the successes we have had [in the past],” the Spaniard told the Scuderia’s official website following the launch of the new F14 T on Saturday. “Obviously over the last four years with have had some opportunities and in 2010 and 2012 we were very, very close to winning the [Drivers’] championship. This year we will try again and hopefully it will be a good one.”
“I think Kimi and me as a team should be quite strong on paper because we have had some successes in the past in our F1 careers. But you need to discover things every year. You start from zero.
“If we do well we will have a very strong team and we will deliver some strong results for Ferrari. If we don’t do a good enough job, some other teams will have a better pairing. It is up to us to deliver and to do a good job,” he added.
As for the new rules, Alonso sees the changes as an opportunity: “Definitely, I think, in 2014 F1 will change a lot with the new regulations. That will also have some implications on the driving styles. I am looking forward to discovering all about this,” he concluded.
