Domenicali: Ferrari must not crack
25 January 2014 – Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali has said the most important thing this year for the Scuderia is to ensure the squad doesn't crack under the pressure.
Domenicali reckons reliability will crucial during the 2014 F1 season, especially at the start of the year, and he added that the first few days of pre-season testing are likely to be extremely challenging given all the regulation changes.
“This year the technical challenge, as far as I can remember, is the biggest one we have seen in the last decade of F1,” he told Ferrari’s official website following the launch of the F14 T on Saturday, “and connected to that we need to make sure the challenge is taken in the right way.
“We have a totally new powertrain and we have a set of new regulations that are very interesting. But they have to be really looked at carefully and in depth to make sure we take the chance to improve the level of performance and this is what I have asked from all the people here in Maranello.”
“This season will be very, very long and therefore it will be important to start with a very reliable car at the beginning,” he continued, “and then keep having the development on the aerodynamic side that was not there last year.
“I am expecting the first few days of [winter] testing to be very challenging for everyone. There are a lot of things to be tested and a lot of things to be checked. The most important thing we have to avoid is to fall under the big pressure that we have. We need to stay focused on the job and make sure we do the best job that we can because the company has given us everything and therefore maximum concentration to not be distracted by the enormous pressure that we have is critical. We know what Ferrari represents for us and for the world of F1,” he concluded.
