Magnussen pleased with McLaren mileage
30 January 2014 – Kevin Magnussen says he is encouraged by the reliability McLaren has shown at this week's opening pre-season test at Jerez.
Although the Woking-based outfit failed to run on the first day, with initial electrical issues affecting the preparation of the MP4-29, Jenson Button racked up 83 laps over the following day and a half, with Magnussen adding 52 more during his first stint at the wheel this afternoon.
"Everything worked as it should, and the car felt good," said Magnussen, who also topped the day's timesheets.
"I'm pretty pleased with our reliability – to have done as many laps as I did in just half a day was pretty positive."
Magnussen was quick to reiterate, however, that it is far too early to be assessing any lap times.
"I'm not taking too much from the fact that I set the fastest time – I was pushing, but it wasn't a balls-to-the-wall lap," he said. "We wanted to get good data and learn about the car, so I think everyone is pushing out there.
"Even so, I still think we can improve the car this week. And the most important thing is to understand how to improve things when we go away from here. I think we have a good idea of the direction to take."
Magnussen will bring the test to an end for the team on Friday, before the focus switches to Bahrain.
