Juncadella: I made the most of it
4 February 2014 – Force India F1 test and reserve driver Daniel Juncadella declared himself happy following his first outing in the VJM07 last week, adding that it was a 'great experience' to get to run at Jerez.
Juncadella wound up third quickest on the final day, behind Williams man, Felipe Massa and the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso. It was a good effort, especially considering he had never driven an F1 car in the wet before.
“It was my first day working with the team on Friday and it was a big challenge because of the tricky conditions. I took things very cautiously because I had never driven a F1 car in the wet and for the whole day the track still had damp patches,” explained the Spaniard, who got his first taste of an F1 car with Williams at the Young Driver Test in the summer last year.
“It was a case of building up my confidence and learning how the team operates,” he added. “[Overall] it was a great experience and I made sure to make the most of it. We covered a lot of laps, which was a big improvement after quite a frustrating day on the Thursday. It’s what the team needed before the Bahrain test to really start understanding the car.
“I want to thank the team and I look forward to the rest of the season,” concluded the 22-year-old, who did 81 laps in total.
