Ecclestone tips Rosberg for 2014 title
5 February 2014 – Bernie Ecclestone has tipped Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg to win this year's Formula 1 title.
At last week's four-day Jerez test, Rosberg and team-mate Lewis Hamilton completed more than 1,300km of running, with both drivers talking positively about the Brackley-based outfit's adaptation to the new rules.
"Anything can happen under the new regulations so I would not want to comment much on what could happen this season. But the way things worked out at Jerez, Mercedes seem best prepared to succeed with Rosberg winning the title," 83-year-old Ecclestone explained in an interview with Indian news agency IANS.
Ecclestone also has high expectations for Force India, tipping the squad to record its maiden Formula 1 victory.
"Why [only] a podium? I would love to see them win a race," he said. "I am confident they can achieve that. They might not be as strong as the Mercedes but as their customers, Force India should progress further up the grid."
Rosberg finished sixth in the overall 2013 standings, while his Mercedes team secured second position.
