Lotus F1 line-up Quesnel to replace Boullier
10 February 2014 – Former Citroen and Peugeot motorsport boss Olivier Quensel could become the new team principal at the Lotus F1 team.
According to reports by RMC, Lotus team owner and co-chairman Gérard Lopez has already held talks with the 64-year-old and a 'contract proposal' has been made, although the specifics are not known.
Lopez is currently the ‘acting’ team principal at the Enstone-based outfit in the wake of Eric Boullier’s defection to McLaren last month, however it is known he looking for someone to take over the position long term. Despite the speculation though, Lopez has confirmed no decision has been taken as yet. Indeed it is understood that the shareholders at Lotus are sceptical about appointing Quensel, given his age and the fact he has no prior F1 experience.
Martin Whitmarsh has also been touted as a candidate in recent weeks, given he is expected to leave McLaren after Ron Dennis was re-appointed CEO of the McLaren Group. Whitmarsh was previously McLaren's team principal.
