Ricciardo already learning from Vettel
12 February 2014 – Daniel Ricciardo has revealed that he is already learning from Sebastian Vettel as he prepares to embark upon his first season as the reigning quadruple World Champion's team-mate at Red Bull.
Ricciardo, who replaced Mark Webber following his fellow Australian's decision to join Porsche's sportscar programme, got his first taste of life alongside Vettel during the recent pre-season test at the Circuito de Jerez.
And although there has been limited on-track running, he is taking plenty of early positives from the situation.
"Just by being around him at the track and at engineer briefings, even just hearing the way he communicates to the team. I'll pick things up naturally from him and learn the ins and outs of how he works," Ricciardo told AAP.
"Obviously he's not going to tell me how to drive around a corner – we're all capable of that now. But being behind the scenes with him is already good for me."
Although Webber has suggested that Ricciardo will be able to match Vettel in qualifying over the course of the season, Ricciardo is keeping his feet firmly on the ground and has refused to outline any targets.
"I haven't fixed a number, saying 50:50 or beat him X amount of times," Ricciardo went on to explain.
"I really feel if I can challenge him for a start, that's already a good place to be. Obviously we know the calibre of driver he is; so the first thing I've got to learn from him, respect what he does and then try to match him.
"I won't say I'll come out and beat him – until I do that, I don't want to say anything. But of course I'd love to."
