Maldonado getting confident with Lotus E22
26 February 2014 – Lotus is getting better day after day and the team is nearly where they want to be, that’s the verdict of Pastor Maldonado on the eve of the third and final 2014 F1 pre-season test this week.
Maldonado will drive on the first two days at the Sakhir circuit this week before handing over the new Renault-powered E22 to team-mate, Romain Grosjean for days three and four. Maldonado and Grosjean ran the other way round last week, with the former, who has switched from Williams to Lotus this year, setting the fifth quickest time on the final day and notching up 59 laps in total, much to his and the Enstone-based outfit’s encouragement.
“We are getting better and better day after day, which is very positive. We were the quickest with the Renault and we did the most laps - so that's very positive,” he told Sky Sports F1. “We are learning a lot and I am getting my confidence with the car. Communication with the team is very good and we are nearly arriving at where we want to be.
“For sure, we were expecting more laps, and we had some problems, but the important thing is that we have solved those problems and it was nice and clean on the final day. So we are quite happy.”
