Sutil urges Sauber to improve performance
27 February 2014 – Adrian Sutil has urged Sauber to improve its performance after the opening day of the final pre-season test in Bahrain.
Sutil opened the third test for the team and focused on improving the front wing and suspension across low fuel runs during the morning session, before switching to high fuel race simulations in the afternoon.
Sutil set the fifth fastest time and completed 89 laps in the C33.
"We did a lot of mileage," he said. "However, we have to work on our performance. We still had a few issues.
"We were able to do qualifying runs and almost a complete race simulation. We have collected a lot of valuable information, but we know we still have to make further progress."
Thursday's running also provided Sutil with the opportunity to gain knowledge of Pirelli's 2014 tyre compounds and the German believes he will not encounter significant problems with their durability.
Sutil was able to test the Super Soft and Soft tyre, which Pirelli has modified to cope with the increased torque from the new power units.
"I was able to gain experience on all dry tyre compounds," he said. "Generally they are all a bit harder than last year, but I have no concern about them as they should last well over the race distance."
Sutil's team-mate, Esteban Gutiérrez, will test the C33 on Friday.
