Best I've felt in the RB10, says Ricciardo
27 February 2014 – Daniel Ricciardo says the Red Bull RB10 was the best it has felt so far on the first day of the final pre-season test in Bahrain.
Ricciardo completed 39 laps and set a time of 1:37.908, eclipsing Red Bull's fastest time from last week's test.
The Australian endured a difficult afternoon session when Red Bull noticed an exhaust problem as they attempted to increase the duration of Ricciardo's runs.
"The morning was much better for us with a few longer runs," said Ricciardo, who ended the day in seventh.
"Behind the wheel, that's the best I've felt so far. The package seems to be coming together better.
"We still had a few issues today, but at least when the car was on track it was much more useful running and we made progress in the morning. It’s getting there."
Ricciardo also dismissed suggestions that Red Bull cannot be competitive at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
"We are still confident we can be up there," he said. "It's clear that we are probably not going to go to Melbourne and dominate, but it's still early days.
"Testing hasn't been perfect, that is for sure, but we are getting there. There are many boxes to tick and we are slowly ticking them.
"Last week, we were doing stuff we wanted to do at Jerez, and this week we are doing stuff we wanted to do last week. So we are definitely not up to scratch in terms of where we want to be."
