Three-race double points proposal rejected
28 February 2014 – Formula 1's strategy group has rejected proposals to introduce double points for the final three rounds of the season.
The proposal intended the final three races of the year – set to take place in the United States, Brazil and Abu Dhabi – to count for double points. Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone was supportive of the idea.
Double points will remain for the final round of the season, a matter which the strategy group did not discuss.
The implementation of double points remains a contentious issue within the Formula 1 community, as reigning World Champion Sebastian Vettel insisted last week that he is not a fan of the rule change.
It is also understood that the deadline for engine homologation, which is today, will not be extended.
