Alonso: We're not yet where we want to be
3 March 2014 – Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso has admitted that the Scuderia is not yet where they want to be with their new 2014 F1 car, the F14 T.
Alonso concluded the fourth and final day of testing at the Bahrain International Circuit on Sunday with the third quickest time. However he was just over a second off the pace set by Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, and was disappointed to have a gearbox issue just before lunch.
“The team did its utmost to carry out changes on the car as quickly as possible, but again today, we had planned to do more laps than we managed,” said Alonso, who in the end completed 74 tours.
“There are a lot of things to learn with the use of the power unit to improve the performance of the car and we are not yet where we want to be,” he added. “Everyone in the team is very competitive [though] and we are working day and night in order to get all the potential out of the F14 T as soon as possible."
"We have gone through twelve days of testing that were very demanding for everyone and I would like to thank the whole team for all its efforts,” he concluded.
