Dennis silent over Whitmarsh's future
6 March 2014 – Ron Dennis says he will not discuss Martin Whitmarsh's future until they have agreed how to move forward.
Whitmarsh has been cast aside at McLaren after Dennis returned to replace him as CEO of the group, with a major restructuring process, which has seen Eric Boullier take on the role of Racing Director, getting underway.
But when questioned over the matter at the McLaren Technology Centre on Thursday, Dennis explained that it would be unfair of him to divulge any further information while discussions with Whitmarsh were ongoing.
"I appointed Martin to this company around 20 years ago and he has been alongside me for those 20 years," said Dennis. "He is a friend and he has always been a friend.
"I know I am tough, I know people have different opinions about how I run companies and function, and people see my attention to detail as a negative. But I see it as a positive. One thing I am is very principled, and the behaviour of this company to its employees is exceptional. There is a way to do things. I have to lead by example."
Dennis clarified: "The situation is 100 percent between him and me until its resolution."
Dennis also revealed that it was Whitmarsh who first contacted Boullier, formerly Team Principal of Lotus, about a potential move to McLaren for the 2014 season, before Dennis announced his return and sparked the changes.
