Hamilton plays down Rosberg tensions
13 March 2014 – Lewis Hamilton has played down suggestions that he will clash with team-mate Nico Rosberg this season.
With the works Mercedes team heading into the 2014 campaign as favourites for both titles, media and leading paddock figures have predicted tensions between Hamilton and Rosberg, who first teamed up in karting.
But Hamilton says he has known Rosberg for a long enough period to avoid any damaging scenarios.
"Everyone's talking about the relationship between us, [but] it will be the same at the start as it will be at the end," said Hamilton ahead of the Australian Grand Prix. "We've been racing together since we were 13, we've been in championships competing to the end – one where he's won, one where I've won – and it's been the same since.
"It's a more fierce championship and a lot more is riding on it but at the end, I don't see any issues."
Hamilton added that he expects the on-track battle with Rosberg to ebb and flow throughout the season.
"We're always trying to find where the advantages can be between two drivers," he said. "I think you'll see… one race he'll be ahead, one time I'll be ahead, same as last year. Obviously the goal is to be ahead all the time."
