Button: McLaren expecting wins in 2014
13 March 2014 – Jenson Button has made clear that his McLaren team is targeting multiple race victories this season.
The outfit endured a challenging 2013 campaign with an underperforming chassis, failing to record a race victory for the first time in seven years and also missing out on the podium for the first time since 1980.
Although former World Champion Button doubts his chances of lifting the winners' trophy at this weekend's Australian Grand Prix, he is confident that the team's new MP4-29 has the potential to taste success.
"I would be very disappointed if we find out we are in the same situation as last year," said Button. "There is a much better feeling in the team and the car itself feels like a pretty good race car, so things look promising.
"Whether we are quick enough to win here, I don't know. There were two teams [making reference to Mercedes and Williams] that were really fast in testing – and we weren't one of them. But we have brought upgrades to Australia that hopefully will take us close to the front. We are definitely expecting to win races this year."
Button is a three-time winner at Albert Park, triumphing for Brawn GP in 2009 and McLaren in 2010 and 2012.
