Hamilton backed for Melbourne victory
13 March 2014 – Lewis Hamilton has been backed to claim victory in this weekend's season-opening Australian Grand Prix, with the Mercedes driver picking up a majority 30 percent share of the votes in the latest GPUpdate.net poll.
Hamilton, winner of the 2008 world title, finished comfortably clear of team-mate Nico Rosberg and Ferrari's Kimi Räikkönen, both on 15 percent shares, with Fernando Alonso two percent further back in fourth place.
Williams's Felipe Massa, fastest at the final test, followed on 11 percent, while reigning World Champion Sebastian Vettel plus McLaren team-mates Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen all took three percent.
Hamilton also came out on top in the GPUpdate.net World Champion poll earlier this week.
Friday's first free practice session in Melbourne gets underway at 12.30pm local time (GMT +11)
