Two second gap between tyre compounds – Pirelli
14 March 2014 – Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli says that there is a two second gap per lap between the option and prime tyres at this weekend's Australian Grand Prix.
Pirelli has nominated the yellow-banded Soft tyres and the white-banded Medium tyres as the Option and Prime compounds this weekend and say that the opening two practice sessions showed no blistering or graining on the tyres.
"From what we can see so far, we were satisfied with both the performance and degradation of the Medium and Soft compounds, both of which are completely new this year," said Pirelli Motorsport Director Paul Hembery.
"The degradation on the medium tyre is very low, with degradation on the soft slightly higher. We’ve seen no blistering or graining at all today and also fewer marbles, so up to now we have met our objectives.
"The new tyre regulations seem to have worked well so far, with the fans able to see more of the cars out on track, which was exactly the intention."
