Ricciardo referred to stewards over fuel usage
16 March 2014 – Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo has been referred to the stewards for exceeding the maximum allowed fuel flow during Sunday afternoon's Australian Grand Prix, putting his second place finish under threat.
Although he was unable to live with the pace of Nico Rosberg's Mercedes, Ricciardo held McLaren drivers Kevin Magnussen and Jenson Button at bay to finish second and claim his maiden Formula 1 podium.
But post-race analysis suggests that Ricciardo surpassed the 100kg/h fuel flow limit, which would be a breach of the regulations.
"During the race car number 03 exceeded consistently the maximum allowed fuel flow of 100 kg/h," read a statement issued by FIA Technical Delegate Jo Bauer. "As this is not in compliance with Article 5.1.4 of the 2014 Formula One Technical Regulations, I am referring this matter to the stewards for their consideration."
If found guilty the stewards could remove Ricciardo from the results, which would promote Button to third.
