Mallya wants Force India to build on Oz form
19 March 2014 – Force India F1 boss Vijay Mallya has said his team learned a ‘huge amount’ en-route to a double points finish in the Australian Grand Prix last weekend.
Nico Hülkenberg and Sergio Pérez brought their VJM07’s home in sixth and tenth places following the opening round in the 2014 Formula 1 World Championship - albeit only after Daniel Ricciardo was excluded - and Mallya now wants them to build on that form when the circus heads to Malaysia.
“Starting the season with points is what we were aiming to do so we're happy with the result,” Mallya stated. “Nico drove an excellent race and was able to fight near the front for most of the race, eventually earning us good points. Sergio’s race was much more challenging with a puncture on lap one making it difficult for him to show the pace of the car.
“Overall though, we are pleased to see both cars make the finish in this new era of Formula One and we have learned a huge amount. I congratulate everyone in the team for all their hard work over the winter and I look forward to Malaysia in two weeks’ time now where we will aim to build on what we learned in Australia.”
