Hamilton overjoyed with Mercedes one-two
30 March 2014 – Lewis Hamilton described as "absolutely incredible" Mercedes's first one-two finish as a works Formula 1 team since the 1955 Italian Grand Prix.
While Hamilton made a clean start from pole position and surged clear, team-mate Nico Rosberg jumped past Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and kept his fellow German at bay.
"I'm so grateful. I'm really, really happy," said Hamilton, who finished 17 seconds ahead of Rosberg.
"The team has done an incredible job and it's been a fantastic weekend. To have a one-two for the team is absolutely incredible. I've not had many."
With Mercedes claiming pole position in the rain and controlling the pace in dry conditions at Sepang, Hamilton is confident that the team has a car that can compete in any scenario as the season progresses.
"I hope so," he said. "We're in the most difficult of climates and the car is fantastic. We just need to keep pushing now and keep at it."
Hamilton trails team-mate Rosberg, who won at Albert Park, by 18 points in the championship standings.
