Vettel answers GPUpdate reader questions
1 April 2014 – A few weeks ago, GPUpdate.net gave readers the opportunity to pose questions to quadruple World Champion Sebastian Vettel. The Red Bull driver, fresh from his first podium finish of the season at the Malaysian Grand Prix, has worked his way through a selection, with the answers published underneath...
Freek Voorwinden: You have been in this sport for quite a while. During which seasons have the cars been the most difficult to drive and when have they been the easiest to control?
Every era of cars have their own challenge. It doesn't matter if the cars are easy or harder to drive as, in the end, you always have to give your maximum and have to beat your competitors.
Peter van Mil: How big is the role of a driver during the development of the car? Has this influence become bigger or smaller in the last few years?
Well, it is very important that the driver gives detailed feedback (in particular during the first tests) about how the car feels and what it needs to go faster.
Enzo Peeters: What do you think of your new team-mate, Daniel Ricciardo? What is he like to work with and how do you rate his performance so far?
I am sure he will give me a hard time, as I will try to give him a hard time! As everything is new it will be a good opportunity for us to get used to working together as everyone else gets into the rhythm as well. But in the end, which means in the race, for sure I want to first of all beat my team-mate.
Elisa: If you had the possibility to race in a bygone season which one would you choose and why?
It would be the early 1990s! It was the best era for cars because of the raw power and downforce they had!
Sven van der Pas: You have won a lot of races during your career, but which victory do you consider to be your best?
Probably my first win with Toro Rosso in 2008. I still remember the great atmosphere of the people cheering, while I was on the podium. I was really overwhelmed. But I also remember the title wins. They all felt different, but each very special to me.
Marijn Hak: Winning four Formula 1 world titles is an amazing feat. Are there still goals you would like to achieve in Formula 1? If so, what are they, and how do you keep yourself motivated?
For sure I want to win more races and, if the season goes well and the car has good potential amongst the other cars, we will try to fight for the Championship. But in general I am motivated going into each race and giving my maximum. Nothing has changed!
Lydia Lieven: What would you do for a living if you had not been such a good race driver?
I probably would have studied mechanical engineering and then...
Norbert Pałuka: Do you consider any other racing series tempting? Is there currently a machine being driven somewhere around the world that you would like to try out?
In general I like to try out everything with an engine in it. But on the other side I enjoy Formula 1 so much that I am not really thinking about other series. One day I'd like to get a bit more into rallying.
