Rosberg delighted with qualifying effort
5 April 2014 – Nico Rosberg described himself as "very happy" after beating Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton to pole position in Bahrain.
The German had been outpaced by Hamilton during all three practice sessions at the Sakhir circuit earlier in the weekend, but he crucially moved ahead on the first timed runs in the final shootout phase.
And when Hamilton ran wildly wide after locking up at the first corner on his last attempt of the night, Rosberg's fifth career pole was secured.
"It has just worked well through the weekend, finding my way, making progress and getting through some issues," Rosberg commented.
"The challenge this weekend is that in free practice we ran in such hot conditions, and we sort of had to guess for the cold conditions. But it worked out well. I felt comfortable and got my laps together, so I'm very happy.
"I have good memories here, winning the GP2 title and starting my first race in F1. Again, today, it's suited me."
