It was on a knife edge, says Hamilton
6 April 2014 – An ecstatic Lewis Hamilton described the latter stages of Sunday evening's Bahrain Grand Prix as "on a knife edge" as he battled for victory with Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg.
The duo scrapped throughout the race with Rosberg getting past on a couple of occasions before Hamilton regained the advantage.
When the race resumed following a late Safety Car period, Hamilton was using the Medium tyre, while Rosberg had a set of Softs at his disposal.
"I'm so grateful to the team. They have worked so hard to get us up here," said Hamilton. "It is my first time winning here, so I'm very, very proud.
"Nico drove fantastically well. [It was] very, very hard to keep him behind. At the end I built a small gap but he was very fast on the Soft tyre. It [the victory] was on a knife edge all the time."
Hamilton admitted that he was not as quick as Rosberg in Bahrain and vowed to investigate his deficit.
"There's a long, long way to go. Nico was a bit quicker this weekend so I need to figure out where it is," he said.
