Chilton returns Marussia to 10th position
7 April 2014 – Max Chilton expressed his delight after returning Marussia to 10th position in the Constructors' standings at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Although he was the slowest qualifier, the Briton stayed out of trouble and took advantage of his rivals' misfortunes to finish 13th.
The result moves Marussia back ahead of key rivals Caterham, which had taken the advantage after a strong showing in Malaysia.
"Qualifying didn't go so well but I knew the race would be a lot closer," said Chilton. "I didn't get a very good start but through the course of the race I managed the tyres well, while still having a good race with the Caterhams.
"The Safety Car helped as I don't think we had to fuel save as much as the others, once we unlapped ourselves.
"All in all it's great to be leaving Bahrain with 13th place and having finished every single race of my F1 career so far. Most important of all, it's a nice feeling to have helped us back into 10th in the Constructors' standings."
Jules Bianchi finished 16th, having been given a drive-through for an early clash with Sauber's Adrian Sutil.
