Pirelli makes 'useful progress' at Sakhir test
10 April 2014 – Pirelli says it made "useful progress" at the first of four planned post-race tests at the Sakhir circuit.
As a new regulation for the 2014 season, all 11 Formula 1 teams must dedicate one of their test days to tyre work for the sport's sole supplier, while prototype compounds will be widely used at the final Abu Dhabi gathering.
Caterham, Mercedes and Williams carried out tyre duties this week, racking up 247 laps on development sets.
"The opportunity to test with the current cars is something that we have always wished for and it was vital to have this written into the regulations this year," Paul Hembery, Pirelli's Motorsport Director, said after the first test.
"We made useful progress, trying out a number of solutions with 2015 in mind, in demanding conditions.
"Having accumulated this valuable data over two days, we will now analyse it to assess the best development direction for the next in-season test in Barcelona, where we expect to see further evolutions in car performance."
