Maldonado, Gutiérrez move on from collision
11 April 2014 – Pastor Maldonado says he has smoothed things over with Esteban Gutiérrez after their clash in Bahrain.
The Lotus driver, who had just departed the pit lane, tipped his Sauber rival into a violent roll during the closing stages of the Grand Prix, an incident that saw Gutiérrez taken to a nearby hospital for precautionary checks.
"We have been in touch," said Maldonado, who was given a 10 second stop/go penalty, three penalty points and a five-place grid penalty for the upcoming Chinese Grand Prix by the stewards for his role in the accident.
The Venezuelan added: "I think it was a misunderstanding from both sides. He was out of line in the entry of the corner and I was completely committed to it. He said that he didn't see me, and I didn't expect him to turn in."
Maldonado went on to take the chequered flag in 14th position, marking his first finish of the campaign.
