Haas wants blend of youth, experience
15 April 2014 – Haas Formula is hoping to blend youth and experience when it picks its first Formula 1 driver line-up.
Team founder Gene Haas, who has not yet determined if his team will join the grid in 2015 or 2016, says hiring a driver with knowledge of the current ruleset alongside a promising American talent would be the perfect mix.
"I think we would like to have an experienced Formula 1 driver, someone who's familiar with the current engine package rules – they've changed quite a bit even from last year," said Haas during a special press conference.
"Then going forward we would certainly like to have a young American driver – that would be an ideal situation.
"But we haven't really narrowed it down. We've had quite a few people talk to us and sending in applications."
Team Principal Guenther Steiner, previously of Red Bull, says the search for general staff is also underway.
"The real work starts now," he commented. "We need to get the people. We need to define if we start in 2015 or 2016 and we need to pick our partner. Out of that will also be the main – not only technical people – logistical people. All the people come from where we go. And that's why it takes a little bit of time to get there."
