Ferrari: First priority to be second best
16 April 2014 – Ferrari is looking at every area and is trying to make as big a step as it can for each and every race, engineering director, Pat Fry has said.
The Scuderia has made a poor start to the season and after a dismal time in Bahrain, with Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen finishing a disappointing ninth and tenth, Stefano Domenicali stepped down as Team Principal this week.
Despite that, however, the Maranello-based squad remains determined and certainly hasn't given up, although Fry concedes the gap to Mercedes is a big one: "Since the Bahrain race, it's been a very busy time for us, as we examined all areas of car performance from the power unit to suspension configurations and aerodynamic improvements," Fry stated.
"We are naturally working as hard as we can on closing the gap to the top teams, with Mercedes having a reasonable lead over the rest of the field. Currently, our first priority is to establish ourselves as the second best team."
"We are trying to make as big a step as we can for each and every race," he added. "We know what we have to do. The people are pushing 100 per cent, but it takes time."
