Mercedes 'must raise bar everywhere' to stay top
16 April 2014 – Mercedes boss Toto Wolff believes the team will need to keep raising the bar in every single area if it is to sustain its current advantage and stay ahead of the competition.
Mercedes has established itself as the standard setters this season, and has won all three races, finishing one-two in both Malaysia and Bahrain, the last two grands prix. Despite this success, however, Wolff continues to stress that there can be no let up if they are ultimately to take the 2014 Formula 1 World Championship titles and end the run of Red Bull.
"Though we have enjoyed a positive start to the season, with time the balance of the field will start to even out and it's a credit to the people within the sport that we can see such significant advancements throughout the grid already. If we are to sustain any sort of advantage that we may currently have, it's up to us to keep raising the bar in every area," Wolff confirmed.
Looking to the Chinese GP this weekend, he added that Mercedes obviously has 'good momentum' and that 'motivation is extremely high': "The team is now at a level, however, where success is not a bonus but an expectation," he continued. "After three races we find ourselves in a strong position in both Championships but we are under no illusions that our position is a given.
"We must take the good moments and use them as inspiration in the on-going push to achieve our goals," he concluded.
