Horner: Red Bull can take fight to Mercedes
29 April 2014 – Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner reckons they can challenge Mercedes this season and he is hopeful they will make some steps for the Spanish Grand Prix in two weeks time.
Mercedes have been dominant so far, winning the first four races and taking three one-two finishes. Red Bull in contrast, looking for its fifth Constructors' crown in succession, has had only one podium, and while the team is currently second in the standings, the gap to Mercedes is already almost 100 points - 57 versus 154.
Red Bull number one driver and defending Champion, Sebastian Vettel has also struggled and he currently languishes fifth in the Drivers' Championship, 46 points behind Nico Rosberg.
"We're going to give it everything. I believe we can take the fight to them [Mercedes], we just can't concede too much more ground," Horner told Sky Sports F1.
"We were 22kph slower on the straight [in China], that represented almost 100 metres that we were giving away," he added. "That's where we've got to improve - it's quite simple.
"We know where we've got to fix our issues and hopefully there are some steps [we can make] towards that in Barcelona."
