Giedo van der Garde handed third FP1 run
2 May 2014 – Sauber test and reserve driver Giedo van der Garde will take part in the opening practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix next week, it has been confirmed.
The Dutchman will use Esteban Gutiérrez's Ferrari-powered C33, before the Mexican takes back his car for FP2 and the rest of the weekend, the fifth round in the 2014 Formula 1 World Championship. It will be van der Garde's third outing in practice this season, having also been out in China and Bahrain. He will then take part in the post-race test at the Circuit de Catalunya too, running on the Tuesday - the opening day. Gutiérrez will drive on the Wednesday.
"It is nice to come back to Europe and especially to Barcelona. The Circuit de Catalunya is a track that I like a lot. We will have some updates and our C33 will weigh less, so it will be interesting to see how the car behaves," said van der Garde. "I am positive, and I am keen to get back behind the wheel."
"After FP1 on Friday I will have a full day of testing on Tuesday [as well]," he added, "so I am looking forward to that."
