Hamilton: Rosberg was quicker than me
11 May 2014 – Lewis Hamilton says Nico Rosberg was quicker in Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix, despite beating his Mercedes team-mate to victory.
The Briton survived a late attack to convert pole position into his fourth successive win, taking him to the top of the standings in the process.
"My first win here in Spain means everything to me," said Hamilton.
"I wasn't really fast enough today. I struggled with the balance [of the car] and had to rely more on my engineer.
"Nico was a bit quicker but fortunately I could keep him behind!"
Rosberg says he needed just one more lap to pull a move on Hamilton, having closed in during the final stint.
"I think one more lap to be honest. With one more could have given it a good go," Rosberg explained.
"I'm a bit gutted, but it's still second place. We're close in the championship and there are many more races."
On his chances of bouncing back in Monaco, he added: "I'll be going there to do one better."
