Horner: Newey rumours an 'annual thing'
13 May 2014 – Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has rubbished speculation that design chief Adrian Newey might switch camps and move to Ferrari.
Talk of Newey going to the Scuderia was one of the big rumours doing the rounds during the Spanish Grand Prix last weekend, but Horner was quick to play it down.
"It is an annual thing that there is speculation about Adrian's future but he has made his feelings very clear to me about the team," Horner told reporters in Barcelona.
"He has paternal feelings towards the team and he is much more involved than he has been, and he really enjoys the environment he works in. You can understand why Ferrari would be looking. Adrian has always enjoyed a challenge."
Newey meanwhile was also quizzed on the subject and was rather non-committal.
"There is always rumours, isn't there?" he remarked in an interview with Sky Sports F1. "It is the silly season. I have done some sportscar races in Italy, and it is a great place, but it is a bit of a leap of faith from one to the other. We are all under contract, so at some point I have got to think about the future, but my focus at the moment is trying to get back on top of those silver cars."
