Ricciardo: Vettel hasn't lost ability to drive
15 May 2014 – Daniel Ricciardo says he fully expects Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel to take a step forward in coming races, reiterating that the German "hasn't lost his ability to drive" amid a tough start to the season.
Since his disqualification in Australia and retirement in Malaysia, Ricciardo has finished ahead of Vettel at every event, as the latter struggles to adapt to turbocharged power unit technology and the team's new RB10.
But Ricciardo is certain that Vettel will soon be able to get to get to grips with the machine and up his game.
"It's nice that I can give Seb a run for his money," Ricciardo explained to Sport Bild. "It's going well for me at the moment, but I know that Seb will soon get everything out of his car. He hasn't lost his ability to drive."
Although their intra-team battle could yet step up a gear, Ricciardo says his relationship with Vettel is strong.
"As team-mates, we have a good relationship," the Australian commented. "We have the same sense of humour and the atmosphere is positive. We eat breakfast together and that's not too common for team-mates."
