Kvyat: Monaco a step into the unknown
20 May 2014 – Toro Rosso rookie Daniil Kvyat has described the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix weekend as a "step into the unknown", with the Russian yet to make a visit to the Principality or contest a race on a street circuit.
Kvyat, who stepped up to Formula 1 with Red Bull's junior outfit after clinching the GP3 Series crown, has again relied on a wide range of television footage and extensive simulator mileage to prepare for the event.
"Monaco for me will be an absolutely new experience. Not only have I never raced there, I have never even been there on a visit," explained Kvyat, who has recorded points finishes in three of his opening five races.
"I have watched a lot of races from Monaco on TV and a lot of on-board footage. But it will be a step into the unknown for me, even if I have now driven it on the simulator. In fact, I have never raced on any street circuit."
The 20-year-old added: "I am really looking forward to the weekend, mainly from a driving point of view, but I also want to find out what it is that makes this race such a special event for all fans of motor sport."
