Hamilton 'set' for remainder of weekend
22 May 2014 – Lewis Hamilton says he is "pretty set" for the remainder of the Monaco Grand Prix weekend after a positive opening day of practice.
The Mercedes driver topped the morning's dry session, before finishing second to Ferrari's Fernando Alonso in the rain-affected afternoon outing.
"It felt great. I'm surprised that it started off so well," said Hamilton, who arrived at the circuit later than planned after oversleeping.
"The track is amazing to drive and the car is really behaving a lot better than it was last year for me. The fact that we got that session in at the beginning [before the rain] is a huge plus. I feel pretty set for Saturday."
Hamilton is eager to make up for the pit-stop misjudgement that cost him dearly during last year's race.
"I've been trying to win here for a long time but haven't had a car to do so apart from last year," the 2008 race winner commented. "With the car that we have this year… I hope I can do what I can do."
Hamilton's team-mate, Nico Rosberg, finished second in Thursday's opening practice session, but the German finished a lowly 20th in the afternoon after being severely hindered by yellow flags and traffic.
