'Rosberg extends Mercedes contract'
23 May 2014 – Nico Rosberg has signed a two-year contract extension with Mercedes, according to the BBC.
Rosberg's agreement with the Silver Arrows was reportedly due to expire at the end of this season, but a spokesman for the team made clear in Monte-Carlo: "We have long term relationships with both our drivers."
Following compliments from Mercedes chiefs Dieter Zetsche and Toto Wolff, Rosberg's renewal puts an end to speculation linking Ferrari's Fernando Alonso to a switch, as the Italian team continues to struggle for form.
Further reports suggest that Rosberg quietly put pen to paper on a new contract ahead of the 2014 season.
Rosberg claimed victory at the opening race of the season in Australia, and has finished second to team-mate Lewis Hamilton, who initially signed on a three-year deal starting from 2012, at the following four events.
