Rosberg: I'm sorry for what happened
24 May 2014 – Nico Rosberg has apologised to team-mate Lewis Hamilton for hindering his final effort in Saturday's Monaco Grand Prix qualifying hour.
Rosberg, who led after the opening timed attempts, made a mistake on the run down to Mirabeau at the end of the session, bringing out the yellow flags and preventing improvements.
Speaking in the post-qualifying press conference, Rosberg said: "I thought it was over once that happened. I thought the track would ramp up and somebody would beat it.
"I'm sorry for what happened to Lewis. I didn't know where exactly he was. It's not great, but that's the way it is…"
Hamilton, meanwhile, suggested that there was more to the incident than Rosberg simply making an error.
When asked about the irony of the situation, Hamilton replied: "It is ironic… I was up a couple of tenths…"
Speaking in the press pen, he added: "I don't have an answer to it… I can't say I've ever been in this position."
The 2008 World Champion went on to state that he was "on the pole lap" before having to back off.
