Traffic hinders Button's qualifying efforts
24 May 2014 – Jenson Button was left to rue what might have been after traffic played a role in his elimination from the second phase of qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix.
The McLaren driver got caught up behind a Toro Rosso on his final timed run, with his subsequent attempts not enough to claim a place in the top ten shootout.
"On the first lap of my final run in Q2, I came across one of the Toro Rossos at the Swimming Pool. I don't think he initially saw me, then he tried to back out of the corner, but there wasn't enough room for two cars into the second part of that particular part of the circuit.
"It's a pity; the pace was there in Q1, but I didn't get a lap together in Q2.
The afternoon was better for team-mate Kevin Magnussen, who progressed to Q3 and took eighth on the grid.
"I'm not completely happy to be starting eighth, but we pretty much got the best out of what we had," he said.
"Tomorrow we need a good first lap and to stay out of trouble – then maybe we can score some solid points."
