Bianchi: We've waited a long time for this
25 May 2014 – Jules Bianchi was overjoyed after giving his Marussia team its maiden Formula 1 points finish in Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix.
The Frenchman's achievement was even more impressive given the fact that he started the day with a gearbox penalty, before going on to pick up a five second stop/go penalty during the race for lining up in the wrong position after Pastor Maldonado's Lotus stalled on the grid.
With a high rate of attrition, he ultimately crossed the line in eighth position and, although that became ninth after the application of a time penalty for serving his stop/go under Safety Car conditions, he still recorded the outfit's first points since it joined the sport in 2010.
"We have been waiting for this for a long time and now that we have done it I am so proud of the team. They did a really good job and I am really happy to give them the result," Bianchi explained to reporters after the race.
"It was really stressful for me in the car and I guess it was for the team as well because we had some penalties. So I was lucky to finish in the points. I cannot say anymore... it is just amazing."
When quizzed about his penalties, Bianchi said: "The first one I knew was because [Esteban] Gutiérrez stopped in a position forward and Max [Chilton] did the same. When I saw that I wanted to do the same. Then I stopped and I was in the same line as [Kamui] Kobayashi, which was not my line so it was definitely a mistake.
"But the second one I do not know why..."
